Spatio-Temporal Variation of Extreme Heat Events in Southeastern Europe

Many studies in the last few years have been dedicated to increasing temperatures and extreme heat Europe since second half of 20th century because their adverse effects on ecosystems resilience, human health, quality life. The present research aims analyze spatio-temporal variations events Southeastern using daily temperature data from 70 selected meteorological stations applying methodology developed initially for quantitative assessment hot weather Bulgaria. We demonstrate suitability indicators based maximum thresholds assess intensity (i.e., magnitude duration) tendency period 1961–2020 both by individual Köppen’s climate zones. capability used intensity-duration spell model evaluate severity has also studied compared with Excess Heat Factor index a yearly basis. study provides strong evidence applied combined approach investigation evolution phenomena over considered domain.
